If your dog has been diagnosed with cranial cruciate ligament disease, you might have heard of a procedure called TPLO, Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy. In the short video below, Nuria, one of the specialists in small animal surgery working here at Lumbry Park Veterinary Specialists talks more about What is TPLO and why your dog has been referred to us for the procedure.
TPLO is a specialised surgery to stabilise the knee joint in dogs after a cranial cruciate ligament tear. This injury is one of the more common orthopaedic problems in pets, particularly in active large breed dogs.
Cranial cruciate ligament tears can occur because of sudden twisting of the knee joint, or most likely because of wear and tear over time. Without treatment, this injury can lead to arthritis pain and difficulty walking.
Your vet may refer you to a Specialist orthopaedic surgeon at Lumbry Park for this procedure as, not only are we incredible experienced, but we also have the benefit of advanced surgical equipment and a dedicated anaesthesia team and 24 hours nursing team to ensure your pet is in the safest possible hands.
