Bertie’s fish hook story

Fish hook taken out of Bertie

Everyone meet Bertie. Little Bertie is a four month old Schnauzer that was referred to us after swallowing a fish hook on the beach.

Our Internal Medicine Specialist Dr Samantha Taylor worked in conjunction with our Emergency and Critical Care Specialist Dr Adam Mugford to give Bertie the best possible care.

Our team managed to remove the fish hook via Endoscopic retrieval which was an excellent result for Bertie as this avoided an invasive surgical procedure.

As you can see from his X-Ray the fish hook is very visible, can you spot anything else on the X-Ray that little Bertie also thought would be a good snack on the beach? Yes it’s a Crab.

The good news is that he has recovered well and has returned home with this owners. We all loved getting to know Bertie and enjoyed so many cuddles!

Please all be careful when walking your dogs on beaches or by the coast as this was a life threatening injury for Bertie.
