Lumbry Park Veterinary Specialists is a large multidisciplinary referral hospital providing veterinary referral services across the South of England including London and the Thames Valley. Our services include Orthopaedic surgery, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Internal Medicine, Soft Tissue Surgery, Dentistry, Cardiology, and Diagnostic Imaging. The hospital is an ISFM gold feline clinic and was awarded the BVHA design award for an outstanding working environment. Senior Diagnostic Imaging RVN

Reporting to: Head RVN

Hours: Full time, 40 hours per week and contribution to a 1:4 on-call daytime weekend rota.

We are looking for an experienced RVN to coordinate (and partially provide) diagnostic imaging services; rotating between x-ray, ultrasound and CT, including contribution to an out-of-hours rota for CT once training has been provided. There may be a role with MRI in the future. You should be passionate about providing the highest quality diagnostic services. The role would suit a candidate with a clear focus for exacting standards in image quality. Experience of a referral environment is considered beneficial.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide leadership and line management to the Radiographers, Patient Care Assistants who rotate between wards and theatre, the student veterinary nurses and the laboratory patient care technician.
  • Provide line management of the laboratory patient care technician. With their assistance, manage the laboratory to ensure the environment is clean, tidied and prepared for use as required. With the assistance of the senior service nurse research, source and order new tests and equipment. The role may require you to assist with sample collection, processing, packaging, arrangement of couriers and tracked deliveries. Fostering good working relationship with commonly used laboratories will be encouraged.
  • Manage the diagnostic imaging rooms, including X-ray, ultrasound and MRI/CT control room, ensuring cleanliness, appropriate stocking of consumable and re-ordering.
  • To liase with the senior theatre RVN, who coordinates workflow in the hospital; to predict procedure duration, to help our booking system, to ensure the smooth flow of patients in and out of the imaging department on the patient journey through the hospital.
  • Performing diagnostic imaging studies, primarily X-ray, but progressing to provide cover for CT alongside our team of qualified radiographers, who will provide training and assistance.
  • Assisting ultrasonographers, coordinating nurses, interns or veterinary students to restrain patients for ultrasound examinations.
  • Assisting ultrasonographers/radiologists in the processing of biopsies and other laboratory samples, and assisting with drainage procedures (after appropriate training).
  • Occasionally contributing to anaesthesia services under the supervision of the senior theatre RVN and specialist anaesthetist, normally only when required within the imaging department.

Night RVN

Reporting to: Senior Wards RVN

Hours: Full time, equivalent to 42 hours per week; 7 nights on, 7 nights off.

Starting: ASAP

We are looking for passionate and enthusiastic RVNs to join our night nursing team. This is a particularly good opportunity for those wishing to gain experience in emergency and critical-care nursing. You will be working in a dedicated team of night RVNs, supported by twilight nurses, a patient care assistant and a veterinary surgeon with 24-hour support of our referral team. The team includes two diplomats in ECC, an advanced practitioner and a veterinary technician specialist. Twilight Referral RVN

Reporting to: Senior Wards RVN

Hours: Full time, 40 hours per week including unsociable hours – we would also welcome and consider part time applications

Starting: ASAP

We are looking for passionate and enthusiastic RVNs to join our twilight nursing team. This is a flexible role incorporating inpatient care, emergency and critical-care nursing and provision of anaesthesia cover in certain circumstances. The role is particularly suitable for those with a passion for critical care nursing and anaesthesia. You will be working in a dedicated team of night RVNs, supported by a veterinary surgeon and specialist-led referral team. The team includes two diplomats in ECC and three diplomats in anaesthesia.
