Colin is an experienced specialist (consultant) veterinary neurologist and neurosurgeon, with over 10 years of private practice experience treating dogs and cats with medical and surgical disorders of the brain, spine, and peripheral nervous system.

Colin is a graduate of the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) and completed his masters degree and post-graduate specialist training (residency) at the RVC in 2012, becoming a diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Neurology and RCVS recognised specialist. Colin was able to concurrently study for a PhD, from the University of Ghent (Belgium), studying the development and diagnosis of canine syringomyelia (a complex developmental spinal disorder in dogs).

Colin spent eighteen months on the RVC neurology faculty before working in private referral practice in Hampshire and Surrey for most of the last decade, helping to establish and lead three busy referral services. He was clinical director at Fitzpatrick Referrals Orthopaedics and Neurology, before taking a role with CVS Group PLC, eventually to become clinical director of Lumbry Park Veterinary Specialists.

Colin is a visiting senior lecturer in veterinary neurology at the University of Surrey. He is an experienced under- and post-graduate educator having taught undergraduate veterinary students and trained several other specialists in academia and private practice. He regularly contributes CPD to colleagues nationally and internationally in the fields of neurology and spinal surgery.

In 2022, Colin was awarded fellowship of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons for meritorious contribution to clinical practice. Fellowship is the highest status of membership of the College and is awarded for outstanding contributions to the veterinary profession.

Colin is experienced in the management of all medical and surgical disorders of the nervous system including epilepsy, inflammatory conditions (meningoencephalitis), vestibular disorders (affecting balance), intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) and conditions causing spinal pain. His clinical interests include the management of spinal disorders in brachycephalic breeds (French Bulldogs, Pugs, Boston Terriers, English Bulldogs etc) such as intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), spinal malformations, and constrictive (‘Pug dog’) myelopathy. He is also passionate about diagnosing and managing spinal pain – including pioneering state-of-the-art surgical management of intervertebral disc-related diseases such as lumbosacral disease and cervical spondylomyelopathy (wobbler disease).

Colin has authored and co-authored over 35 research articles. His research interests have centred on the diagnosis and treatment of developmental disorders of the nervous system, including vertebral malformations, Chiari-like malformation and syringomyelia.
