Pieter graduated from Ghent University in 2008, followed by a rotating internship and residency in small animal internal medicine at the same university. He became a European Specialist in internal medicine in 2015 (Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ECVIM-CA)). Pieter then worked as a senior internal medicine clinician at the referral hospital of Ghent University, while also completing a PhD on acute kidney injury caused by canine babesiosis in 2019.
Following this, Pieter joined Lumbry Park Veterinary Specialists in 2019, when he also became an RCVS Recognised Specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine. Besides enjoying all aspects of canine and feline internal medicine, his specific areas of interest include acute kidney injury, the effects of infectious diseases on kidney function, and feline idiopathic cystitis.
Pieter enjoys his clinical work at Lumbry Park Veterinary Specialists because as a multi-disciplinary hospital, optimal care and support for the patients and clients can be provided. He is also the Head of Internal Medicine and the Director of the ECVIM-CA approved internal medicine residency training programme at Lumbry Park. Pieter is also a visiting lecturer in Small Animal Medicine at the School of Veterinary Medicine (University of Surrey).
In his spare time, he enjoys travelling to experience different cultures, and also loves to hike and dive.
